Why You Should Start a Monetization Plan for Your Blog Today

Starting a blog is like trying to walk into a busy crowded room and attempting to get heard. It’s not easy. But, there are few places that offer the flexibility of a blog.

You set your own schedule and you can post from anywhere in the world.

You even have a chance to make money if you are self-motivated and willing to dedicate time to writing great blog posts.

But, if you want a chance of succeeding, you will need to find a way to navigate through the blogging landscape full of pitfalls and critics.

Which brings me to this post. I want to talk to you about monetizing your blog. It’s something that is important to a lot of people.

First off, there is nothing wrong with you wanting to monetize. Running a blog costs real money and the time you spend writing is worth something.

But, if you want to monetize your blog in the future, you need to start planning today.

What do I mean?

I will give you an example.

Let’s say that you want to create an ebook to sell online one year from now. So, you spent one year building up a email list and views. And in a year you put your ebook up for sale.

The problem is that the people who follow your blog may not be interested in buying your ebook. They may not convert to customers.

They may just like reading your funny stories about your cat. You need to start today by connecting with people who are looking for what you will be selling later.

You need to be writing content that will attract them.

Keep in mind that this only requires you to write 52 posts a year if you write one per week. This should be manageable for most people. You could even do it on the side.

Even if you aren’t sure you want to monetize later, you should still be tailoring your content toward building an audience that will be receptive toward you monetizing later.

Unless you know with 100 % certainty that you will never monetize.

I’m just trying to save you some time and energy.

Please keep in mind that you don’t need a rock solid plan. I like to think of it more like a path. Just keep trying different things until you find something that works for you.

Thanks for reading…

I’m curious, are any of you planning to monetize one day?

    1. Quick question…would people miss you if you stopped posting? My guess is that they would based on your following (way more than me ☺)…I think that your writing relates to a lot of people…and many people struggle trying to accomplish that…so, I’m sure what you write is valuable to some people..In fact, I know it is..

      1. Thank you, yes I do think I’d be missed by some at any rate. I have a very loyal and supportive group of followers for which I’m very grateful. It’s them that make it so much fun really.

  1. Great tips!

I’m tempted to monetize but I honestly am not sure about it. I’ve found myself really enjoying blogging freely and fear the attempt to monetize it would make it feel forced. I’ve considered using my blog instead as a sample or resume bullet for potential writing jobs instead. I love the idea of being paid to write but finding the right avenue is hard.

  2. I think you bring up a good point… it’s hard to know how people will respond or if things would change as a result of monetizing…but, I think that’s one thing that makes blogging such a great opportunity…you can try different things as long as you tell people up front and are honest…it doesn’t have to work perfect on the first try…you will have many opportunities if you know how to stay in the game…I don’t believe in trying to ” Hustle” people..its more trying to figure out what is beneficial for everybody..thanks for the comment

    1. Thanks for the comment.. I think you bring up an interesting point…the world is full of marketers trying to sell something..but, we as consumers live busy lives and don’t want to be interrupted with yet another sales pitch..I often find it annoying having to deal with constant “pop up” windows as I browse the internet…I think we are headed in a direction where these tactics won’t work as much anymore…but, one thing will always stand out…great ideas never have to be sold…they lead people to you instead…I think this approach is the key to success

      1. Good comment..That’s a problem so many people (blogs) face… how to reach the people that truly care about what they’re doing /selling…you come off as spam if you you try to push it on everyone… a Blog gives you an opportunity to write content that will attract those people without having to spam everyone…sadly, people don’t follow this…they get in a rush and try to force things… it’s not that people are against buying things… It’s that people are tired of getting interpreted by things they don’t want…
